Prior to appearing on Bambino, every parent and sitter goes through a multi-part vetting process, including:

Phone number and carrier validation to ensure users are registered with valid carriers and not using internet phone numbers or untraceable phones.

Identity verification for all parents and sitters through uploading their government-issued ID or validating their Social Security Number.

Family Watchdog Sex offender background check cross-checks against the registered sex offender database to block users from the platform.

Every sitter must receive a recommendation from another member of the community in order to have the profile activated on the platform.

What is Bambino?

Bambino is a next-generation babysitting app that leverages the power of location, social connections, and personalized recommendations to create trusted relationships between families and sitters. We foster a community of local sitters who are recommended by your friends and neighbors. Parents can find, book, and pay sitters straight through the app.

How much does Bambino cost?

Bambino Sitters is free to download and free to set up your Bambino account. Hourly rates for hiring a sitter are clearly displayed in each sitter’s profile and you can see an estimated total before you book. You will be required to enter a valid credit card before confirming a sitter but payment is not made until the end of the sit when you confirm the sit times and submit payment.  

How do you vet your sitters?

Our community is built on the goal of connecting neighborhood parents with neighborhood sitters. Bambino is a tool to make these connections easier and more convenient. We believe strongly that trust is best gained through physical and social proximity and we strive to create a community that relies on its neighbors and friends for verification, not a corporate certification process.

For any of our sitters to join, they must receive a recommendation from at least one parent. When parents are selecting a sitter, we encourage them to see what sitters their friends have used, read the sitter reviews, and make an informed decision. 

In addition to the required recommendation, all sitters must pass multiple identity verification checks. These include the following:

ID Verification (EvidentID):

All sitters 18 years and older are required to pass selfie verified ID verification through our partner EvidentID.  Sitters are required to submit a photo of their driver’s license or passport along with a selfie to verify their identity.  The data collection, storage, and verification are processed by EvidentID.  Sitters who are 13-15 years old are not required to complete this verification and this step is optional for sitters 16-17 years old. 

KYC – Know Your Customer Check:

This check runs through law enforcement databases to confirm the sitter is not on any government watchlist.

OFAC – Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Depart of the Treasury Check:

The Office of Foreign Assets Control administers and enforces economic and trade sanctions against targeted foreign countries and regimes (including terrorists, international narcotics traffickers, those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and other threats to national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States), based on U.S. foreign policy and national security goals. In short, this check verifies that the sitter is not a threat to national security. 

MasterCard MATCH Check: 

The MasterCard MATCH File is a database file used by payment processing banks to identify specific merchants and principals who may have been terminated for reasons like fraud or violations of Visa and/or MasterCard rules. This check verifies that the sitter has not been flagged by MasterCard or Visa for high-risk activities. 

Sex Offender Background Check:

Family Watchdog is a service to help locate registered sex offenders by address and name. We have partnered with the database to screen all parents and sitters who register.  If the system identifies a possible match the profile is flagged and blocked and we are alerted.  

Cell Phone Verification: 

When a new sitter creates a profile their cell phone number is verified by entering a six-digit code texted to them by Bambino. We ensure users are registered with valid carriers in the United States and not using internet phone numbers or untraceable phones

Additionally, sitters 18 years and older have the option of submitting for a more comprehensive background check. When they do, a third-party background checking service verifies their identity through their Social Security number, checks them against the Sex Offender Registry and Global Watchlist, and checks them against national and county criminal records. If the sitter clears all the checks, they get an icon on their profile signifying that they have been cleared. If they do not clear the background check process, they will not appear on the app at all.  All sitters designated as “Elite” have cleared this comprehensive background check.

Parents have always relied on their friends’ recommendations to select sitters and with Bambino, it is no different—just more convenient! Nevertheless, we always encourage our families to contact their friends should they have any additional questions about the sitters.

Do I need to tip my babysitter?

Tips are never expected. Sitters set their rates and take home what they feel is appropriate. No more mental math, rounding, or thinking! Just click “Stop” at the end of the sit, confirm the payment, and you’re done! As we love to say, it’s babysitting made easy! 

If you feel your Bambino Sitter has gone above and beyond, you’ve added extra kids to the sit last minute, or you just want to thank you for a job well done, feel free to show them your appreciation by adding a tip in the box provided at the end of the sit. 

You can also use this option to reimburse your sitter for any expenses incurred during the sit (gas, food, admission/tickets, etc.).

What happens if I need to cancel?

We get it, sometimes your plans change and you need to cancel. It happens to everyone. In the event you need to cancel, we ask that you give your sitter as much notice as possible, but at least 24 hours notice so they have a chance to make other plans. Parent-initiated cancellations within 24 hours of the booking start time will incur a $2.95 fee. Parent-initiated cancellations within 2 hours of the start time will incur a charge of one (1) hour at the reserved sitter’s published rate or $20, whichever is greater. There will be no charges to the parent in the event the sitter cancels. 

We understand that you are depending on your sitter to arrive on time. Sitter reliability is of the utmost importance to us. As such, we track cancellations within 48 hours of the scheduled booking time. If a sitter’s reliability rating falls below an acceptable level, we deactivate their account. We consider cancellations within 2 hours of the booking time to be equivalent to a no-show. Every no-show/last-minute cancellation is reviewed by our member support team and sitters face immediate deactivation when appropriate.

Why should I connect my Facebook contacts to my Bambino account?

We get it. Your Facebook feed can be a mixed bag of updates from childhood acquaintances or notifications from brand pages we signed up for long ago and aren’t sure how to turn off. So we want to put your mind at ease right out of the chute. 

Your privacy is of paramount importance to us, and when you link your Facebook, we will NOT

  • Post to your Facebook page in any way, shape, or form; 
  • Use your friends’ list to market our product; 
  • Use your Facebook credentials for anything other than constructing your initial profile and connecting you with your friends within the Bambino community.

So, why do we want you to connect your Facebook? We are a service that aims to connect families with local sitters that are recommended by their friends and neighbors. Facebook is an easy way of connecting you with your friends who are also using the app. Beyond that, there are two primary reasons: community, and convenience.

COMMUNITY: Bambino is based on social connections. Put simply, we want to modernize the traditional way of finding a Sitter – asking friends and neighbors for recommendations. Facebook allows our app to instantly tap into your existing personal community to connect you with Sitters that your friends and neighbors have recommended. 

By connecting your Bambino with your Facebook contacts, you can see within seconds all the Sitters available to you that are not only connected to your friends and neighbors but valued by them.

CONVENIENCE:  We know your time and brain space are limited as parents. With your Facebook contacts, we hope to make it easier for you to use Bambino to find, book, and pay a Sitter recommended by your friends within minutes.
