How to Survive Hosting Thanksgiving With Kids

Nov 15, 2022 | Parents, Ambassadors

Thanksgiving Day is a fun day to celebrate with your family – but it can also be chaotic. So, trying to keep your kids entertained while you’re mashing potatoes or basting the turkey is the last thing you should have to worry about. Luckily, we have compiled a list of activities that you can use in your own home to keep your kids out of the kitchen and busy all day long.

Pull out the board games

Board games are the perfect screen-free activity. Family members can teach the younger kids the rules or if you need someone to play the game with them, we know a few great Sitters. Want an extra tip? If you have older kids, find games that take longer to play– like Monopoly– to keep them busy until dinner is ready.

Try a Thanksgiving craft

Crafts are always a fun and easy way to keep kids engaged while you step into the other room. Thanksgiving is the perfect reason to break out the art supplies and participate in a festive holiday craft! Need some inspiration? Check out our Thanksgiving craft round-up.

Invite them to help you

This one depends on how old your kids are, but giving them little tasks throughout the day while you cook can help make the process more fun for them and you! Whether they help you gather the ingredients to bake a pumpkin pie or set the table, these chores will allow you to make some fun memories while still prepping for the main event.

Hire a babysitter on Bambino

When all else fails, Bambino is here to help. Our sitters are available 24/7 to provide you with the assistance you need, whether that’s entertaining the kids while you cook dinner, putting them to bed so you can enjoy the extra time with family, or anything in between!

Prioritize  your mental health

Parenting, let alone hosting an entire Thanksgiving day dinner, is stressful. If you’re feeling stressed, take a 5-minute break away from everyone to decompress and focus on your breathing. Check out a few of our team’s favorite mental health resources to alleviate some stress on the big day.

We hope these tips help you juggle hosting a family gathering while keeping the kids preoccupied. Tag us on social media at @BambinoSitters if you use any of these tips so we can join in on your fun Thanksgiving festivities!

From our Bambino family to yours, happy Thanksgiving, we are so thankful for you.
